Abstract

One of Ford's Irish-American predecessors in early Hollywood was his own brother Francis (or Frank), older than him by 12 years: an energetic director and star who inspired John to follow him, and gave him his first work. John followed his example in changing his Irish birth name, Feeney, to the anglicized professional name of Ford.
