Unemployment in the United Kingdom: Tackling contributing factors to the recycling of workers between insecure work and Job Seeker’s Allowance.

This book is an examination of the socio-economic problems of long-term unemployment (LTU) and repeat Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA) spells. It asks what are the individual, class, economic, educational, institutional, structural, social, and other factors contributing to LTU and repeat JSA spells? It includes discussion of the current debate regarding these factors and analyses this against current trends. This book concludes that LTU and repeat JSA claims are essentially two symptoms of the same core problems occurring in the UK labour market that conspire to prevent some workers from gaining long-term sustainable employment. Using the information gathered, this work proposes a number of public policy solutions to these problems.
