Academic Achievement in Finland

This article examines factors that underpin the high academic achievement of students in Finland. This is done in the light of Finland's outstanding successs in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) international program for International Student Assessment (PISA) survey. Attention is given to individual, professional, historical, and cultural factors, to the challenges levelled at international achievement studies, and to insights from its comparative educational research literature.
