Professional identity, motherhood and education

This chapter is about professional identity, motherhood and education, the importance of which centres on my own experience of being a mother and a teacher. I am interested in the way in which being a mother, or motherhood, can be embraced into the professional identity of being a teacher and in doing so identify if there is a symbiotic relationship between being a teacher and a mother. My own professional identity was conceived before children entered my life as a teacher, and more lateley as a teacher educator.
